On Monday the ecotrack team, myself included, will be heading to the United Nations to present our solution to a recent Solve challenge, which asks, “how can individuals and corporations manage and reduce their carbon contributions?” We are just one of eleven finalists, competing to be awarded the title ‘Solvers’ and the chance to present our solution at the flagship Solve conference back at MIT in Cambridge in May.

We’re really excited about the opportunity to pitch our project in such illustrious surroundings. Of course, the UN is an appropriate — perhaps the most appropriate — venue to discuss how to approach the uniquely cross-national, cross-cultural, and cross-generational challenge that climate change poses.

Needless to say, our solution doesn’t address the whole issue: ecotrack is especially tailored to individuals, in particular millennials, with access to a smartphone and a commitment to taking actions in their own lives to shrink their carbon footprint. But we certainly believe that ecotrack can and will become a significant part of the broader response to climate change — both as a practical tool to help individuals cut their carbon emissions, and to start a wider conversation amongst our generation about the future planet we want to inhabit, and how we can secure it.
