Several of Donald Trump’s recent tweets have been the subject of mirth, including his bizarre “Easy D!” exclamation following a tweet about immigration:
Trump’s tweets have always been subject to ridicule. It finally appears, though, as if his 140-character musings — which stretch back years — may be catching up with him in more substantial ways. Trump’s National Security Advisor, Retired General Michael Flynn, is under fire over claims he discussed the revoking of sanctions on Russia in the weeks after Trump’s election victory, before he took power. Flynn is said to have led Vice President-Elect Mike Pence into lying about this contact in TV interviews. Yet reporters are noting the chronological coincidence between Flynn’s alleged talks and Trump’s own tweets praising Russia’s response to the Obama administration’s sanctions:
Of course at the time of writing there is no evidence linking Trump to Flynn’s conversations. Yet the timing and nature of Trump’s tweets (and the fact that they are a matter of public record thanks to archive sites) opens him up to unprecedented scrutiny — in much the same way as his loose-lipped advisors, presented as evidence in court, helped bring down his travel ban.
